About me

Dang. This is tough. How do I let you get to know me without being too humdrum or too nutsy? Maybe this is why everybody does those blog surveys–to get to know people in a controlled setting. Sounds a bit clinical, but there’s something to be said for it, no? (You’d think this was segueing into a survey, wouldn’t you? I’ve certainly set you up for it, and Lord knows, it’s crossed my mind, but I think I’ll take a path more commonly traveled and just go for the too nutsy approach.)

In high school I played French horn, electric bass, and trombone. I broke Andie McDowell’s house. I have a scar on the back of my head where a motor dropped on it when I was eight. I’d rather go to Newfoundland than Hawaii. My first concert was REO Speedwagon. (Richard Marx opened.) In another life I’d be an auto mechanic. I only have one sibling. I would love to be a professional student. I don’t have any tattoos. Yet.

And I’m a romance writer. I’m working on my fifth historical and also have a completed romantic-comedy/paranormal lite (rom-com-para-lite). The RWA National convention is like crack to me (much like Taco John’s Potato Ole’s), and I probably drink way too much tea for one person, especially when I’m writing. If you ask me, life is perfect.

Where's Pam?

Writing this part is hard! I like yours much better than mine. Mine needs a lot of work. I’ll put that on my to do list and then try out all that trackbacks and pings stuff.

    Nice site!

Ilana–thanks for the kind comments! I sweated this so much because it is so very hard. Why is it authors find it so difficult to talk about themselves?

And since I am such a blogging virgin, what exactly are trackbacks and pings? They sound like a form of exercise done on the BowFlex. (insert confused smiley here!)

    Thanks for coming to play!

According to my ‘WordPress for Dummies’ your blog and my blog can talk to each other (please don’t ask me how). It sounds like we’re not even involved.

Apparently, this happens when I link to your site in my blog or you link to mine (not just on the side links). Maybe we should wait a week and then try writing posts about all the blogging Wiffers and link to their sites. I’m not sure where we’d see the results (I’ll consult my Dummies book this week).

I put my butt in gear and finally wrote a new bio and a book teaser. Again, I feel they could be better….

Great template! I love the WordPress templates. Its so hard to commit…

Pam & Ilana, when you directly link to a specific blog post in one of your blog posts it sends a trackback when you publish your post. So for example if I write a post about all my friends who have started blogging and link to each of their inaugural posts, then my blog would send a trackback to those posts when I published my own post. The trackback would appear in the comments section of the referenced post. To see an example, see the second comment down under this post: http://booklady.wordpress.com/2008/04/03/six-word-memoir/#comments (Sorry. I hate to reference my own blog, but it was the only one handy. Feel free to erase if it looks gratuitous! Anyway, I try to link to others when I can, so you should, I hope, have some trackbacks of your own, I hope.) Lots of spammers use trackbacks (See the first comment here: http://www.eileencook.com/?p=980#comments ) so make sure that it’s a legit comment before you let it through those spam filters.

Now. Pings. You can “ping” various servers to let them know that you have a new blog post up and they should update. I use Pingoat at http://www.pingoat.com. Pingomatic is good, too, but I think Wodpress.com pings them automatically. Those sites then send out messages to a bunch of blog updating sites to let them know that you’ve posted something new.

Does that help? If not, let me know. Sorry. I write the longest comments…
